Koran Burning - Ugh!

My friend and fellow GCTS grad recently posted an article on his National Examiner site about a church in Florida that is going to have a "burn-a-Koran" day to commemorate the events of 9/11.

Instead of being redundant and writing anything about it on my blog, just check out his article here

My question is this: How does an action like that make the grace Jesus offers something people want?

I would love to hear your response to the question.

Thanks man. I think this is more about grabbing headlines than sharing Jesus, unfortunately. :(

Thank you for drawing attention to this. Burning what others see as their sacred scriptures is an act meant to inflame not enlighten. Any possible bridges that might have been built between them and the redemptive power of Jesus also go up in the flames. The act does not seem to reflect Jesus' spirit living in them. Sadly, it also reinforces the stereotypes about extreme Christians which many already hold and makes true evangelism even more difficult.

It is not anyone's job to pass judgement on another for following "the wrong religion". Jesus would not have done it, and he says in the Gospels "Judge not". He also teaches us to "love thy neighbor". He did not judge Samaritans! If Jesus were among us today, he would be speaking out, I am sure, against all the hatred and vitriol that is being spewed out by members of the so-called "christian" Right. (note the small "c"!) Even the Constitution allows all Americans to practice their religion as per the 1st amendment. Pastor Terry, in my opinion, is not following God, but the other guy...yup! That one! The one who tempts, and promoted hatred and evil. Pastor Terry is inviting more 911 attacks by his actions. Muslims all over the world already hate us. Why? Because we judge them! Jesus told us not to do that or the same would return on us. How stupid can people calling themselves "christians" be? Does Pastor Terry want to start Armageddon? It is just such seemingly innocuous actions that can start world wars. I have but one thing to say to Pastor Terry: "Who are you to think you are great enough to do God's job for Him?? Let God do the judging!"
